You might not even notice them, but they are there and they are making your home beautiful. These are small home accessories that more often than not, we tend to neglect and forget about. These are things like ash trays, wall ornaments and your wall clocks, including. Among these, our clocks are the one we tend to mostly forget about. Sometimes, when we bought a wall clock and hanged it in a wall, they remained there for a long time. But, just like other home furnishings clocks are also available now in different designs, sizes and colors. So, you can now get something to match the current motif of your homes. And if you are a fan of the good old grandfather clocks, you can hang one above your fireplace or on a wall in your home which you think is too plain like in the foyer. The clock will add flair to that wall. Outdoor clocks are also now available. And you can get one with a design matching your patio, porch or deck.
So you have these rustic, hand-crafted and pre-aged furnishings at home? These are primitive country furnishings. And you are lucky to have them because they are perfect for achieving a warm and welcome look in your home. And did you know that primitive country furniture and decors can easily be blended with other decorating styles such as French Country and Craftsman furniture. You too can create a primitive country look for your home furniture and decors. How? Start with your pillows, make them cozy and overstuffed just like the old days. And since most primitive country furnishings were of natural elements, you should find furniture and decors in earthly colors and with uneven tones. Reused pieces are the primary feature of primitive country styles, you can look for pieces with tree bark, twigs and branches designs. Big chests and trunks that double as coffee tables or benches should also be among your collections if you are trying to complete your primitive country furniture and décor collections.
Nowadays, keeping tabs on your budget is very important. Hence, even if we want to regularly do redecorations at home, we sometimes decide against it. But, you don’t have to totally deprive yourself when it comes to decorating your homes. There are ways to make them beautiful even without spending a single dime. For example, if you are planning to change the appearance of your windows and you want to rest your eyes staring at your draperies. You can always make use of window valances. And you don’t have to buy a set. How? If you have extra fabrics at home, then get your stash of needles, threads and your tape measure and scissors. Any extra ribbons that you have can also be helpful. You just measure the window where you’ll be installing your window valances. Then cut the fabrics according to the measurement. Then, using the right thread color, saw the valance using your hands. You can search the internet for exact guides on how to design your valance as well as how to add the ribbons.
With the current world financial crisis, budgeting in all of your expenses is very important. And this is very true when it comes to decorating your homes. As most home furnishings and materials for home upgrades are expensive, it would be wise to do careful planning. Or better yet, abort any plans of home upgrading in the near future especially if you're on a tight budget. Don't fret, though. You never have to endure the boring looks of your homes just because you can't do an upgrade yet. Well, you can always avail yourself of home decors which are affordable but can provide great accent to your rather dull home interiors. You can start with pillows and rugs. Affordable but beautiful and well-crafted rugs are now available. You can choose from variety of designs, colors and shapes. Pillows with greatly-designed cases are also great for accentuating your living room. You can also work these pillows into your bedroom to jazz it up. Browse the internet and you can surely find online shops offering quality but affordable products. You can also visit the shops in your area, especially those offering 99 cents and below products. Garage sales are also a great source of cheap but quality home decors.
Every part of your home is important. We all know that I presume. Even that basement you have been planning to clean up since last year is important. And one part of the home we really need to focus on is the kitchen.
It is imperative that the kitchen should be clean. It is where we prepare food and of course, that's one very good reason why we need to keep the kitchen tidy at all times. And one more thing that you should consider regarding your kitchen is that it should be well illuminated. Of course, you do not want to prepare your food in a dark kitchen.
It is also important to have the right style for the kitchen. It should exude an atmosphere that can make you feel relaxed. This is really a good thing as you want to be as comfortable as you are when preparing your meals.
One good way of making your kitchen look great is to add functional furniture like discount chairs or something. For these, choose those chairs which do not take up too much space but at the same time has a comfortable seat.
That's just my suggestion though. If you want expert advice though, hgtv has a wide variety of tips for the home which I think you would put to good use.
If you love motorsports, then I am sure that you are familiar with the checkered flag. If you are not well versed in that area, well, it is actually the flag that they wave after the leader of the race crosses the finish line. Well, simply put, I associate the checkered flag with victory.
But victory is not the only thing I associate with that checkered black and white pattern. I think that it really looks cool and that any furniture or fixture for that matter, even a stained glass fireplace screen with a checkered pattern is a great addition to a home adorned with contemporary designed decors.
In fact, black and white checkered design is not the only color combination that I like. Any contrasting color in a checkered pattern as long as it is created with style is good enough for me. But I am not saying that anything checkered will look good in your home.
Of course, you would have to consider the other decors that you already have. Although a checkered pattern has its own unique appeal, it does not mean that it will easily look good with other furniture and fixture of different style or color scheme. So in the end, you still have to decide for yourself what color in a checkered pattern will look good in your home.
Do you know that almost everything in a modern home are produced using petroleum in one way or another? Of course they are as anything plastic is made from petroleum products. During the production of different household items, greenhouse gases are produced thus increasing the threat of global warming.
Fortunately, corn is now being used to create fibers which are in turn used for household items like pillows although I doubt it if they could replace the materials used on wholesale candle holders.
Pacific Coast Feather Company, a company specializing on bedroom accents announced that their retailers will be marketing products made from NatureWorks fibers. This is only the first step in what many expects to be change in the materials used for everyday products.
The fibers which will be used on the company's product come from corn. The simple plant sugar from corn or other plant for that matter is what is being used as a substitute for petroleum products.
Using corn-derived fiber has its distinct advantages. Obviously, it comes from a renewable source of energy thus it is virtually unlimited. By using these raw materials, we can also protect the remaining fuel fossil in the world. Aesthetically, corn-based fabrics are less harsh than synthetic materials which mean that more people will be able to use them.
Hopefully, the use of this material will be more widespread.
A carpet is a good way to create a warm feeling inside a home. If kept clean, a carpet makes a room look more appealing no matter what the design may be. But what if your carpet gets damaged albeit just a minor one? Should you just toss it out and buy a new one? That would prove costly though, so why not patch your carpet?
You can do this easily if you can find something to patch up a carpet. You can cut some from those areas where they will not be missed like in closets. Once you have that, you are now ready to patch your damaged carpet. What you will need is a template which covers the damaged area of the carpet. It should also be made of metal. You will also need a couple of nails, and of course, hammer, a sharp utility knife, double sided tape, and seam cement.
First, put the template over the damaged part of the carpet. Make sure that the template covers the damaged area. Now, secure the template by driving two nails through it. Leave the heads of the nails projecting as you need to pull them out again.
Now, use the template as a guide while you cut through the carpet using the knife. Once you have cut all the way around, pull out the nails and the carpet that you have just cut. Get rid of loose fibers using a vacuum cleaner. Get your patch ready by cutting it in the same shape as the carpet you have taken out.
To attach it to the larger piece of the carpet, put some double sided tape halfway under the edges of the carpet. Then, apply seam cement on the edges of your patch and slot it into the hole in the carpet. Press the patch firmly into place. Leave it overnight to dry. It is recommended that you use something heavy to push down the patch.
