Adding drama, style and elegance into your home could be done through fine selection of home furnishing pieces. Drama, style and elegance could be easily revealed in your home by using old, antique and classic wood furniture. The furniture architecture during the old times are mainly conceptualized using basic and natural colors like black, crown, cream, white and gold. When you use them in your home, their natural touch and elegance will be shared transforming intense and passionate look. The best place to find these furniture pieces are on antique shops, but if you cant afford their prices there you could look for carpenters and furniture makers who could make and copy the furniture design that you want. They definitely ask for lower prices, mainly dependent on the type of furniture to be made, the materials to be used and on the difficulty of the design.
Decorating a home means that you have to make appealing not only to you but also to other occupants of your home. It is easy if you live by yourself as you only have to keep what you want in your home.
If you already have a partner, it would also be easier if you have the same taste in furniture and fixtures. But even if your tastes do not match, you can still design your home so that it will be a combination of styles. Although not easy to do, it is not impossible. But what if you already have children? That would surely affect the way you design your home.
We know that children do not know as much as grown ups when it comes to taking care of certain furniture. No matter how many times we have told them off for playing with those fragile china pieces, they would always go back to playing with them if given the chance. And that does not only include china of course.
So what to do? You certainly would not want your home to look like a daycare center right? Of course, you do not have to sacrifice elegance and class of your home just to make it safe for children. The solution for this problem is to find the balance.
Use decors that look elegant but will not be posing nay danger to small children. Also, carefully position decors so that they will be beyond the reach of toddlers. That way, you are making your home look elegant and at the same time protecting your decorative pieces and your precious children.
A carpet is a good way to create a warm feeling inside a home. If kept clean, a carpet makes a room look more appealing no matter what the design may be. But what if your carpet gets damaged albeit just a minor one? Should you just toss it out and buy a new one? That would prove costly though, so why not patch your carpet?
You can do this easily if you can find something to patch up a carpet. You can cut some from those areas where they will not be missed like in closets. Once you have that, you are now ready to patch your damaged carpet. What you will need is a template which covers the damaged area of the carpet. It should also be made of metal. You will also need a couple of nails, and of course, hammer, a sharp utility knife, double sided tape, and seam cement.
First, put the template over the damaged part of the carpet. Make sure that the template covers the damaged area. Now, secure the template by driving two nails through it. Leave the heads of the nails projecting as you need to pull them out again.
Now, use the template as a guide while you cut through the carpet using the knife. Once you have cut all the way around, pull out the nails and the carpet that you have just cut. Get rid of loose fibers using a vacuum cleaner. Get your patch ready by cutting it in the same shape as the carpet you have taken out.
To attach it to the larger piece of the carpet, put some double sided tape halfway under the edges of the carpet. Then, apply seam cement on the edges of your patch and slot it into the hole in the carpet. Press the patch firmly into place. Leave it overnight to dry. It is recommended that you use something heavy to push down the patch.
In the past, it is enough that you have an overhead lighting fixture. But in today's world overhead lighting does not cut it anymore. That's why floor lamps are becoming more and more popular. If you want to have a floor lamp, you can buy it at numerous online stores out there, or you can make your own.
If you want to make your own, you should look for a plant stand and a table lamp. One of the requirements for this is that the table lamp and the plant stand should complement each other. Another is that the base of the table lamp should snugly fit in the circular top of the plant stand.
I would suggest raiding salvage stores or garden stores. Another thing I recommend is to check if you have a table lamp that you are no longer using or you are about to throw out. If you have one, then don't throw it away and instead look around for a plant stand that you can use as the base of a floor lamp. This is also true if you have a plant stand that you don't use anymore but you don't want to throw away.
All you have to do is to secure the table lamp on the plant stand, rewire the whole thing if needed, and that's it.
